Strike Guard LWS

The Strike Guard
Lightning Warning System is a Professional Grade Lightning
Warning System which comprises
5 main components:
A Strike Guard Lightning Sensor
A Strike Guard Lightning Data Receiver
Strike View Software License
A Strike Guard WAVE SIREN Transmitter
A Strike Guard WAVE Siren Station(s)
The Strike Guard Lightning Warning System operates continuously and
automatically where every effort has been made to ensure that the
Strike Guard Lightning Warning System does not malfunction or fail
during a local thunderstorm, even in conditions with very close
lightning activity.
As the external Strike Guard sensor is self powered, it does not
require any externally run power supply, as internally, the Strike
Guard Sensor includes long-life lithium batteries that are capable of
operating the Sensor in a typical environment for over four years.
The sensor is typically securely mounted in a well-exposed place
out-of-doors, and unlike other professional grade Lightning Warning
Systems, is not affected by any placement near to, or on high objects.
For the maximum in operator safety, and to achieve the highest
reliability of the warning equipment in a lightning environment, the
externally mounted Strike Guard Lightning Sensor communicates
with the Strike Guard Lightning Data Receiver, (which is
mounted inside an office environment) via a non-conducting fiber-optic
link.

The Strike Guard
Lightning Sensor:
1. Receives and processes the optical and radio emissions of
lightning discharges within 20 miles of the Sensor.
2. Classifies lightning signals by the estimated range to the
discharge.
3. Rejects background noise.
4. Transmits serial data messages to the Lightning Data Receiver via a
lightning-proof, fiber-optic link.
5. Performs a periodic self-test of Sensor functions including battery
charge level and transmits confidence messages to the Lightning Data
Receiver to ensure that a healthy Sensor and viable communications
link are always available.
The Strike Guard Lightning Data Receiver:
1. Receives the serial data transmissions from the Strike Guard
Lightning Sensor and decodes the lightning and status messages.
2. Provides user-set thresholds for issuing lightning alarms via front
panel Leds, audio transducers and contact-closure signaling.
3. Provides the relay contact-closures needed to activate the optional
Wave Transmitter and Wave Siren System, or to signal
other equipment that uses contact-closures.
4. Provides continuous operation with battery back-up when commercial
power fails.
5. Indicates Sensor status information and Lightning Data Receiver
battery level information.
The Lightning Data Receiver (LDR) decodes lightning and status
messages, and provides the logic and timing needed to give audible and
visual lightning and status information, and to provide
contact-closure signaling of external equipment. The LDR is designed
to be easy to install and easy to use with a short learning curve for
set-up and use.
The Strike Guard LDR is designed for maximum reliability during local
thunderstorms when lightning-caused power disturbances, power
failures, and lightning surge currents tend to compromise less robust
commercial equipment.
Unlike the external Strike Guard Lightning Sensor, the Strike Guard
LDR is not weatherproof, and is required to operate in a normal office
environment. Subjecting the LDR to high humidity, high temperature,
insect and rodent habitat will shorten useful product life
significantly.

The WAVE Transmitter
 |
Consists of:
Part Number: WAVE-TR01
Wireless transmitter
Key-operated
Antenna
50 ft coaxial cable,
AC power supply and battery back-up.
Strike Guard interface cable provided connects between
the Strike Guard Receiver and the WAVE Transmitter. Includes timer
device to control hours of siren operation. |
The WAVE
Transmitter is the interface between the Strike Guard Lightning
Warning System and the WAVE Siren Stations, which combine
to provide a fully automated lightning warning system. Strike Guard
easily connects to the WAVE Transmitter to remotely trigger the remote
based WAVE Siren Stations (and optional WAVE Sequencers) for audible
lightning hazard notification and equipment protection at multiple
locations.
WAVE employs state-of-the-art wireless technology to address the most
demanding audible and visual event notification and hazard warning
applications over large areas
Designed for critical safety applications, the WAVE Transmitter
broadcasts digitally encrypted messages to activate standalone WAVE
Siren Stations placed remotely around the site within a 5 km radius.
The Transmitter accepts contact-closure signalling for automated
triggering during programmable hours of operation. WAVE relies on low
frequency RF communication to operate in noisy environments and over
challenging terrain. WAVE Siren Station horns are modular in design to
provide audible notification specific to the desired coverage area and
application. Based on coverage area and sound pressure level
requirements, Siren Stations can be ordered with up to four 100 W
re-entrant horn, high-efficiency compression-drivers.

The WAVE Siren Stations
WAVE Siren and the Strike
Guard Lightning Warning System combine to provide a fully automated
lightning warning system.
Strike Guard easily connects to the WAVE Transmitter to trigger the
WAVE Siren Stations (and optional WAVE Sequencers), for audible
lightning hazard notification and equipment protection at multiple
locations.
The Wave Siren stations can be installed at standalone locations and
be powered by site AC or Solar Panels, and can be configured to
accommodate multiple horns for any variety of locations and high noise
environments. Threat annunciations are transferred to the Wave Siren
stations by the Wave Transmitter through coded Radio Frequency.

The WAVE Sequencer
(Optional)
The WAVE Sequencer employs state-of-the-art technology to shut down
and isolate vulnerable electrical components during local
thunderstorms. The Sequencer receives digitally encoded signals from
the WAVE Transmitter to initiate the orderly protection of critical
plant equipment.
The WAVE Transmitter accepts contact-closure signals from the Strike
Guard Lightning Data Receiver and sends disable and/or enable signals
via radio to the Sequencer based on detection of local lightning by
Strike Guard.
Each Sequencer allows three separate electrical power feeds to be
switched with programmable delays. The 12 VDC outputs of the Sequencer
are designed to control contactors appropriate for managing the loads
represented by pumps, irrigation systems and other critical equipment.
