SGS External Lightning Sensor

Description

The SGS external lightning sensor is a self powered scientific grade lightning sensing, and ranging instrument, that transmits validated lightning data to the internal lightning data receiver via a lightning proof fibre optic conductor .

The SGS sensor detects electromagnetic signals from cloud to cloud and cloud ground lightning activity, which is only notified once validation of lightning threats is given by an optical flash sensor ensuring double positive coincidence between two independent sensing technologies, and thereby ensuring 0% false alarm rate.

The SGS external lightning sensor is self powered by long life lithium ion battery, which is ‘not field replaceable’, and needs to be replaced at the time of the recommended 3-4 yearly sensor recalibration.

The sensor is typically mounted upon the strike guard tripod which is supplied with the Strike Guard Lightning Warning System
